RF CHAPTER SEVEN of TEN
ED "NEWT" NEWTON

XAfter leaving the Art Center College of Design, Ed "Newt" Newton joined Ed Roth's staff in the early Sixties, soon becoming the ever-growing group's defacto Art Director. Newt designed characters for Roth, and also created a series of wild magazine and catalog advertisements for Roth's products. Pictured right: Newt in 1962.

Newt also helped Roth design of several of his custom cars, including the Orbitron, Surfite, Wishbone, Bike Truck, and more. The Orbitron was his first assignment for Roth, in February 1964.

Besides cars, Newt did tons of Roth T-shirts...

Many of the fun and clever ads that Roth ran in car magazines were designed by Newt, including this one, from DRAG-toons #8...
