CHAPTER TWO of SIX
THE HEAP GOES PSYCHO

THE HEAP was the first of many characters inspired by a 1940 short story called "It," written by Theodore Sturgeon. The character debuted in AIRBOY comics, but when that book's publisher went out of business, the character languished unused for years -- until it was revived in 1971 by Skywald Publications in the pages of their black and white horror magazine... PSYCHO!

The HEAP feature continued in several issues of PSYCHO. Pictured below is a groovy double-page splash from PSYCHO #3, with art by comic veterans Ross Andru and Mike Esposito.

When Ross Andru took over scripting (!) the feature in PSYCHO #4, the poor old Heap began going slightly, ummmm... insane!
