THE SECRET ORIGINS of DR. STRANGE - PART SEVEN
X
X
X
This issue, we present the stories of two magical doctors who made their debuts years before Dr. Strange. We begin with the shock-ending "I Know The Secret of the Poltergiest," by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, from TALES TO ASTONISH #1 January 1959. This story, with its mysterious doctor who specializes in supernatural cases, drawn by Ditko, was a prototype for the character of Dr. Strange!

DR. DROOM
X
Dr. Droom made his evil debut in Amazing Adventures #1, June 1961. This story also features a mysterious doctor who specializes in supernatural cases. He even studies for his mystical degree in Tibet (where else). The story, drawn by Jack Kirby, gives us a look at what Dr. Strange might have been like without Steve Ditko -- not awful, but Kirby's dynamic realism was a far cry from Ditko's trippy, other-worldly visuals.

When Dr. Droom's stories were reprinted in Weird Wonder Tales, his name was changed to Dr. Druid! Probably to avoid confusion with the FF's arch enemy, Dr. Doom. Good call.
