FANTASTIC FOUR #1
Kirby's original FF #1 cover (below, left), later published in reprints, had less people on the scene than the published version. The published version (below, right) shows three more people have been added on the sidewalk, one of them a policeman.

FANTASTIC FOUR #2
Before the FF cover on the left was published, flames were added to Johnny's figure, and his word balloon was removed. Sue's balloon was also deleted.

FANTASTIC FOUR #3
All pretense of the FF not being a superhero comic was abandoned when the original cover of FF #3 was completely redone -- changing the emphasis from a "monster" cover (left) to a "superhero" cover (right).

FANTASTIC FOUR #52
The FF cover on the left was never published at all. It was also completely redrawn! The new cover, as published, is shown on the right.

FANTASTIC FOUR #65
The cover on the left is bursting with "Kirby Krackle," the name given to artist Jack Kirby's distinctive way of drawing energy blasts using dots. But Stan didn't like the effect in this case, so before the cover was published, most of the Krackle was removed.

Before the FF cover above was printed, flames were added to Johnny's body (as the original art above shows). When the story was Reprinted in MGC #53, the original image was restored, and Johnny's figure was recolored as normal clothing.

FANTASTIC FOUR #92
Before the cover on the left was printed, the word "EXTRA" was removed from the poster, and the image of "Ben Grimm Killer" was signifigantly enlarged.
