Part 12 of an all-new 21-part series - Click here for part one!
JANUARY 1963
Continuing our very long series on DC editor Mort Weisinger/Ira Schnapp's unique "Coming Super Attractions" ad campaign! This time, it's back to the "new look" CSA format, with a universe stripe and Johnny DC. In box one, a super-BIZARRE cover showing Superman with a giant red ant head! This plays to children's fear of insects. Box two is all about the pains of younger siblings, and in box three, another take on that theme as Superboy conflicts with Superman -- like an older and younger brother sometimes do.

The first story below is one of my favorites, the introduction of Nightwing and Flamebird, the "Dynamic Duo of Kandor." Jimmy faces old age (THE HORROR) in box two, and the third box repeats the middle box from the previous ad.

FEBRUARY 1963
The ad below is another temporary throwback to the "old" CSA look. Although there's plenty of words, the images are slowly becoming more dominant.

The ad below is a duplicate of the previous ad, except He-Man Clark has replaced Perry exposing Superman's identity. Poor Silver Age Supes. He was always getting his identity exposed, or getting abused by his "friends."

MARCH 1963
Hey look, suddenly we're back to the "new look" stripe format! There's a story about the Phantom Zone in box one, box two has another case of someone suddenly getting super powers, and in box three, Lois Lane faces old age. Note: The text takes special pains to note that Lana was HAPPY when Lois became a hag. Nice!

What if the "SUPERBOY" TV series advertised in the CSA style?

That's all for this installment of COMING SUPER ATTRACTIONS.
See you next time, reader!
