Part 7 of an all-new 21-part series - Click here for part one!
APRIL 1961
Me want my mommy! Here's "Orphans of Space" in the first box, with the center spot taken by that old Wolf-Man, Jimmy Olsen. And in position number three, a story to sure to warm the heart (and address the sports fantasies) of many a young lad as Superboy becomes "The One-Man Team of Smallville!" Well, it's better than hero-worshipping A-Rod!

The ad below, also from April 1961, repeats the first box. In center spot, we see Lana Lang do the equivalent of joking a college fraternity to meet new friends -- but Lana meets the LSH instead. In box three, the ongoing hell that is the life of Silver Age Lois Lane. And no longer satisfied with challenging, now Weisinger is openly DEFYING readers to guess story elements!

JUNE 1961
For every kid who dreams of having the perfect big brother, DC presents Mon-El, a "disease-ridden" character destined to languish in the Phantom Zone for like a thousand years or something, then attain great popularity and even get his own title for a while, under the stupid name "Valor." Box two: DC deals with misbehaving kids who fear they may one day be sent to reform school. Finally, in box three, Superman faces an army of TINY rivals, and Supergirl follows Lana's footsteps and meets the LSH.

JULY 1961
Box one: Superman finally gets the "This is Your Life" treatment. Center spot: Which family pet is better, the dog or the cat? It's a battle as old as time. And poor Silver Age Lois Lane, whose entire life revolves around marrying Superman, is now becoming a mad woman, and turning into a baby. Even worse -- Supes is marrying her RIVAL, Lana Lang.

Whoa! The boxes in the CSA ad below have suddenly gotten a lot longer! But this wasn't a format change, it apparently was a one-time thing to accommodate an odd space. And since ALL these ads were hand-lettered by Ira Schnapp, it was no big deal to make this one a bit bigger.

See? The boxes shrunk again. Box one: The rivalry between Lois and Lana gets ugly when Lois lays a trap for Lana. Next, Perry White is the latest supporting cast member to "unexpectedly" get super-powers (I think it's Jimmy's turn next Tuesday), and twist meets twist when we meet Bizarro-Mxyptlk, and Superboy meets "The Witch of Smallville."

BELOW: Superman gets the "This is Your Life" treatment -- again -- and Jimmy's whacky transformations are in full swing as he turns into Elastic Lad, an Ant King, and a super-baby! And in insane asylum news, Lois goes mad, gets a childhood, and imagines Superman marrying Lana. The horror. The horror.

What if the Chris Reeve "SUPERMAN" movie advertised in the CSA style?

That's all for this installment of COMING SUPER ATTRACTIONS.
See you next time, reader!
