ONE TO THRILL YOU Claw Contest
In a past Dial B contest, we asked readers to supply missing words for an empty word balloon on a Demon cover that had been left blank accidently. A pretty bad error -- but that was NOTHING compared to what has to rank as one of the most SERIOUS errors ever seen in any DC house ad! Remember CLAW THE UNCONQUERED, a Conan rip-off drawn by Ernie Chan? Here's one of the ads that introduced Claw to the world...
This ad ran in JLA #116, May 1975. To prove it, the spread it came from is shown on the right.
As you can see, there's a HUGE BLANK SPACE at the top of the ad! Given the shape of the space, we might assume that the CLAW logo was supposed to be there, but was left out -- probably due to a production error. Or maybe it was supposed to say something about how great Claw was. We will never know!
In this contest, now over, we asked readers to fill in the blank with whatever they wanted, attempting to be funny. Thanks for the entries, readers! Sorry, not everyone can win. The results are posted below!
