DC EXPLODES ON TV - NUMBER 2 OF TWELVE
Superman 101: "The Rainbow Doom!"

Welcome back to "DC Explodes on TV," a new Dial B mini-series counting down the top 12 covers of DC comics as seen on television. Today it's number 11, SUPERMAN 101, which was shown in the original Superman TV series staring George Reeves, in the episode "The Unlucky number."

X
While investigating a numbers racket, Clark and Lois check out a
newsstand which displays several DC comics...
X
Clark leaves, but Lois stays to buy a lottery ticket...
X
As Lois walks away, we get a close look at the comics on the newstand...
X
Clearly displayed, in multiple copies, is SUPERMAN #101, November 1955.
X
But wait! What if TV Lois and turned around and READ that comic book?

That's right, Lois is temporarily changed into solid glass!
But THIS panel would have been even more of a shock to poor TV Lois...

Anyone reading this comic would've learned Superman's secret identity!
X
And that's not all. If TV Lois had read these comics,
she would have been in for few MORE shocks...
X
The rack also shows SUPERBOY 44, October 1955...
X
Inside this issue, Superman's Superboy's identity is exposed
again -- this time by Lois Lane's rival, Lana Lang!
X
Then there's BATMAN 95, October-November 1955, which would have revealed to a very confused Lois Lane the existance of OTHER superheroes -- namely Batman and Robin (whose story is sung as a bat-ballad). Cover and splash seen below, click to embiggen!
X
But don't worry reader! Luckily for TV Superman,
Lois did NOT read any of these comic books!
