The annual report (cover shown above) was published by National Periodical Publications, the owner of National Comics (now DC Comics). NPP also owned Independent News, one of the largest magazine distributors, which distributed Martin Goodman's publications, including the Millie the Model comic as well as the "men's adventure" magazines, Male and Men, both of which are pictured. Independent News also distributed Playboy. So the picture is staged to depict a variety of magazines and comics distributed by Independent News, including the issue of Playboy shown below. Thrilling!
