When Russ Heath left the book, DC ran a "Sensational reader's poll" asking readers to choose a new artist for the series. Several of DC's top artists "auditioned," each drawing themselves right into the story. Included were Joe Kubert, Gene Colan, and the Ross Andru/Mike Esposito team, plus Irv Novick and Jack Abel.
