DUCK TALES: RAIDERS OF THE LOST bARKs! The opening sequence of the George Lucas/Steven Spielberg classic "RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK" (1981) was inspired by two different Walt Disney comic books starring Uncle Scrooge! The first of these duck tales was titled "The Seven Cities of Cibola" (From Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge #7, September 1954). Here's that story's opening panel, drawn by the great Carl Barks:

The other Uncle Scrooge story to inspire RAIDERS was titled "The Prize of Pizarro" (From Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge #26, June 1959). When this book was first published, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg were, respectively, 15 and 12 years old. Here's that story's opening panel, also drawn by Carl Barks:

Now, going panel-for-panel, and shot-by-shot, DIAL B for BLOG reveals for the first time ever exactly how two Uncle stories inspired the opening of "RAIDERS." (We're going to mix panels from the two stories together, and match them with the corresponding scenes from "RAIDERS.") Here we go...

INDIANA JONES, hero of RAIDERS (played by Harrison Ford), is also looking for an exotic hidden treasure...

The ducks eventually find a hidden idol carved from solid emerald...

Indy finds a hidden idol carved from solid GOLD!

A duck nephew warns Uncle Scrooge to look out for traps!

Indiana Jones is also wary of hidden traps...

The ducks avoid toppling a huge boulder above the idol...

But poor Indy is not aware of the trap Dewey mentioned!

...and neither are the evil Beagle Boys!

Courageous Indy prepares to snatch the idol...

And so do the evil Beagle Boys!

Dr. Jones grabs the idol and takes it off the pedestal...

And so do the Beagle Boys!

RAIDERS TRIVIA: The golden idol seen in the beginning of the first Indiana Jones movie is a fertility idol for the Chachopoy Warriors who menace Indy!
