Dark Shadows cast

The interior art on the DARK SHADOWS comic book was done by Joe Certa, who had previously worked on DC's "John Jones, Martian Manhunter" series in Detective comics. Scripts were by John Warner, whose other comic work includes The Flash and The Defenders.

Covers for DARK SHADOWS #1-7 used publicity photos from the show, and added some wording to make them relevant to that issue's story. After the photos were exhausted, the comic began running illustrated covers, and even a few painted covers. Below is a mini-gallery of the series' best covers -- click each image for a huge version!

MONSTER MASH-UP

Dark Shadows copied virtually every famous horror story ever told! It was as if producer Dan Curtis took Dracula, Wolf Man, and Frankenstein, even The Picture of Dorian Grey, and transplanted them to Wuthering Heights as seen by H. P. Lovecraft.
The comic book took its cues from the TV series, and added even more monsters into the mash-up! It started with...

Then came the murderously evil living toys...
ds
...and the power-crazed satanic cult leader...
ds
Then Barnabas Collins came up against...
ds
And look out! It's Washington Irving's Headless Horseman!
ds

Yet through it all, Barnabas maintains a "secret identity" as a normal man!
