.The Adventures of Superman!

After the theatrical film "Superman and the Mole Men" (1951) became a hit, "The Adventures of Superman" ongoing television series premiered in 1953. The show ran for 104 episodes, ending its run in 1957. DC editor Mort Weisinger served as a story editor beginning with the second season.

Starring as Superman was George Reeves, who had previously played Brent Tarleton, one of the redheaded Tarleton twins, seen in the first few minutes of the 1939 epic "Gone with the Wind." (For more on Reeve's tragic death, see DBB #42.) Lois Lane was played by Phyllis Coates the first season, then the role was taken over by Noel Neill, who had played Lois before in two Superman movie serials (See DIAL B #307).
