MEET THE BUZZIN' BEE-MAN!
.BEE-MAN aka THE BEE first appeared in Double-Dare Adventures #1 (Dec. 1966, cover pictured above), part of the “Harvey Thriller” line of superhero comics from the publishers of Casper and Richie Rich. DDA #1 was packaged by Joe Simon, and drawn by Bill Draut.

The Bee is disgruntled rocket scientist Barry E. Eames. In a once in a lifetime coincidence, Barry's initials are actually B.E.E.! As J.J.J. said of Doc Ock in "Spider-man 2, "What are the odds!"

The story begins as unmanned Mars probe is launched. Barry sees a chance to make some big money, so he decides to tamper with the probe's controls and make it to crash land somewhere in the desert. He "forgets" to tell his bosses exactly where.

What is Barry's bizarre and sinister plan? Well, he's going to demand money to reveal the probe's contents. OK, I never said Barry was the brightest bee on the block. But just wait. You ain't seen nothing yet...

Barry drives to the desert and opens the crashed Mars probe! Inside, he finds...

"THE BEES! SAVE HIM FROM THE GIANT BEES!"
.Ay Carumba! This panel reminds me of a scene from that loco 1954 movie with the giant atomic ants, "Them" (poster pictured left). Hola, amigos and amigas! Yo soy Bee-.Man from the Simpsons! Barry was bitten pretty badly by those giant alien bees, wasn't he?

But that nice man took him to a hospital so he could get some help for his sting problemo. The doctors called in a team of specialists, but as Barry waited for them in his room, something muy loco began to happen. Keep reading!

In the hospital, Barry begins hearing strange, alien voices...

THE BEE-PEOPLE from MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE!
.
Hello Earthlings! We are the Bee People from the old Masters of the Universe cartoon series ("I am the power!"). We are NOT the aliens who abducted Barry Eames, but they are friends of ours. We bee-inspired aliens like to stick together.

Anyway, as pictured above. Barry leaves the hospital, returns to the desert and gets inside the meteor. Once he is inside, the meteor seals itself, and transports him through outer space, back to the aliens' home planet. Then...

THE BEE-MAN'S AMAZING BEE-BASED SUPER POWERS!
.The honey bee was introduced into the United States in Colonial America. Honey bees can communicate with each other, relaying direction and distance of nectar and pollen sources. Their wings stroke over 11,000 times per minute, making a distinctive buzz. Honey bees also build waxen "hives" for rearing young and storing honey.

Bee-Man's amazing super powers and alien weaponry are based on the characteristics of Earth's honey bee! See details below...

THE SECRET SOURCE OF BEE-MAN'S SUPER POWERS
.
Now that Bee-Man has powers and a secret hideout, it's time to begin his mission of world conquest. But it may not be as easy as he thinks. Unfortunately for the Bee, the US Army has become aware of his evil machinations. The Army sends soldiers to capture the Bee!

And to make matters worse, something else is apparently going wrong. As Bee-Man buzzes through the sky, he suddenly begins to feel weak! He is losing his bee-strength! What's the matter with him?

Well, it seems Bee-Man needs to consume large amounts of HONEY to retain his space-born super powers. How large? Well...

This text piece from DDA #1 was written by Bee-Man himself:
"My worthy deeds will force all Earthlings to surrender to my SUPERIOR WORLD. Many of your great scientists have predicted that ONE DAY INSECTS WILL RULE THE EARTH. You laughed and called them crazy, but I shall prove them RIGHT. The day is not far away when INSECTS WILL INDEED RULE THE HUMANS OF THE EARTH. You will become our slaves and solve many of our problems -- one of which is labor. The entire human race, what is left of it, that is, will become SLAVES TO MY RACE. You will fulfill the duties of our worker bees. You will become MY SLAVES. Any questions?"

BEE-MAN SEES THE LIGHT, RENOUNCES WORLD CONQUEST!
.Hello reader, I'm the Cheerios bee (pictured right). You may have seen my numerous television and print appearances promoting the delicious taste of Honey Nut Cheerios cereal. Been doing it since 1979! Anyway, the Bee-Man's story does .NOT end here. In DDA #2, cover pictured left, our hero gave up his evil plans for world conquest and turned over a new leaf.

In an adventure titled "Revolt of the Queen Bee," the Bee renounced his evil past and dedicated himself to fighting crime -- at least for the remainder of this, this second and last adventure.

According to this story, Bee-Man then went to work for the "F.Bee.I." For real. Wow! It's nice to know our government has a whole AGENCY dedicated to making good use of our nation's reformed super-bees. Bye reader! And remember to eat lots of delicious Honey Nut Cheerios for breakfast!
