FEATURING SEVEN STORIES REPRINTED FROM PREVIOUS ISSUES OF THE TITLE

STORY ONE: Reprinted from NOT BRAND ECHH #1 - August 1967
.
"The Silver Burper"

Story: Stan Lee
Pencils: Jack Kirby

Stan and Jack proved they don't take their characters too seriously by creating this deft parody of the entire FF mythos, based largely on the events of FF #47. From Reed's constant attempts to restore the Thing to human form, to Doc Doom pulling a fast one on the "Silver Burper," it's all here, and it's all funny!
.

STORY TWO: Reprinted from NOT BRAND ECHH #2 - September 1967
.
"Peter Pooper vs. Gnatman and Rotten"

Story: Stan Lee
Pencils: Marie Severin

Spider-Man parody meets Batman TV show parody in this cutting satire, which starts when "J. Jawbone Junkton" (J. Jonah Jameson) gets a tip from Jimmy Olsen that Spidey-Man is back in town. Junkton hires Gnatman and Rotten (Batman and Robin) to take care of his arch-enemy!

Cap's origin is the target this time, as well as 1960s pop-culture in general. Cameo appearances include Jay Garrick Flash, Aquaman, and Knock Furious, Agent of S.H.E.E.S.H. (Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.). The panel below shows frail Steve Rogers the moment after he became Cap...

The whacky Forbush Man, the Woody Allen of the superhero set, was the unofficial "Not Brand Echh" mascot during the book's 13-issue run, from August 1967 to May 1969. Here are some panels from Forbush Man's tongue-in-cheek origin story ...

We'll close with the cover to NBE #9. This issue had no stories reprinted in the "The Best of Not Brand Echh" giant we're profiling today, but it features a King Kong parody on its cover ... a portent of things to come here at DIAL B for BLOG! See you tomorrow, reader!
