Green Lantern by Gil Kane

As Batman put it so beautifully to the resurrected Hal Jordan, "You're 'back.' " And so he is, fully reinstated in the DC Universe, with his own new title and alternate Alex Ross cover and everything. Of course, the story is so pedestrian, the title probably won't last ... but never mind that. Here's a great drawing of GL by his original artist, the late Gil Kane. R.I.P. Blue Beetle

The Blue Beetle is dead now, at least until the next big continuity shuffle. Maybe permanently. As you can tell by the massive uproar and daily picketing outside DC's offices, no one really cares. I don't. The Beetle was really only a good character for about 10 minutes, when Steve Ditko drew him. Pictured: Blue Beetle #3 by Ditko. In his own DC book, he was anything but unique, and in the Giffen Justice League issues, he was more of a joke than anything else. So if he's gone, and he seems to be ... do we really care?

The Stiltman!

One of my favorite whacky villains is Daredevil's foe, the Stiltman. Stiltman is Wilbur Day, a scientist who created an armored pair of stilts using stolen plans. These are not mere circus-type stilts -- they are easily the tallest in the entire universe. They telescope to over 290 feet high! And they're coated with stuff Spidey's webs won't stick to. Stiltman doesn't have any super-powers -- he just walks around on stilts. It sounds truly idiotic, and it is ... yet somehow, it's also strangely compelling! The character was revamped in "Spider-man/ Daredevil" in 2001. Pictured: Daredevil #8 by Wally Wood, Thor #269 by Simonson/Sinnott, and Amazing Spider-Man #237 by Hannigan/ Klein/ Rubinstein/ Hall/ Giacoia. Wow, that's a lot of inkers.

New superhero movie: "Sky High"

Sort of like Prof. X's Academy meets Buffy, this movie stars Kurt Russell and Kelly Preston (left) as super parents who send their super kids to "Sky High," where every kid has powers. For example, in the scene pictured right, a boy heat visions a girl's butt, so she turns and ices him a la Bobby "Iceman" Drake. Original!

More evil twins

Two Jokers in Detective Comics #85 by Dick Sprang, two Cap Jr.'s in Captain Marvel Jr. #61 by Kurt Schaffenber; and two Meras in Aquaman #22 by Nick Cardy. Which one will win? The good one, of course. Good ALWAYS triumphs over evil ... at least in comics. Isn't that why we love them?
